Cookie Policy

BooksfromScotland.com, in common with all ecommerce websites, relies on the use of electronic cookies to manage your shopping basket. We also use some cookies provided by Google Analytics, which provide us with broad overviews over the traffic patterns across the website. This page explains the use of each of the different cookies on our website.

Session Cookies

BooksfromScotland.com sets two session cookies when you are browsing the website. These cookies are automatically deleted when you leave the website and close your web browser. These cookies do not contain any personally identifiable information.

Shopping Basket Cookies

As you browse the website and add books to your shopping basket, we need to keep track of that basket. The basket needs to be "passed over" between the normal website (starting www.booksfromscotland.com) and the encrypted secure website (starting secure.booksfromscotland.com) that takes your credit card payment details. To do this we set two cookies, called cif-bfsb and cif-bfsp. These cookies last 31 days and 365 days respectively.

Without these cookies, we would be unable to sell any books at all and so are deemed "strictly necessary" for the functioning of the website. They are only set if you add a book to the basket, and are not created while simply browsing the site.

Google Analytics Cookies

BooksfromScotland.com uses the Google Analytics tool to track overall browsing patterns on the website. For instance, it helps us identify the most popular pages on the website, find out which links are being clicked on (and which aren't!), and to give us broad demographics about where in the world our customers are accessing BooksfromScotland.com. We cannot personally identify any user with these cookies.

The five Google Analytics cookies are called utma, utmb, utmc, utmv and utmz. They track how often the website is visited, when you enter and leave the site, and which site you visited that lead you to BooksfroomScotland.com. utmz also tracks any keywords you entered into a search engine that lead you to BooksfromScotland.com, if appropriate.

Third Party Cookies

BooksfromScotland.com includes some adverts supplied by Google Adsense. Google Adsense uses cookies to track your browsing and search history in order to serve up adverts you may be interested in.

Video trailers for books are served through YouTube, and YouTube may set its own cookies as you watch these videos.

Clicking on the "Share this book" links to Twitter, Facebook and Google+ may also set these third-party cookies.

BooksfromScotland.com has no control over these third-party cookies, and cannot see the contents of these cookies. You can use your web browser privacy controls to manage these cookies.

Local Shared Objects (Flash Cookies)

BooksfromScotland.com does not use any Flash Cookies, and does not use HTML5 Web Storage at all.
