Beatrice Colin
Beatrice Colin is a novelist, radio dramatist based in Scotland. Her novel for adults, The Luminous Life of Lilly Aphrodite was translated into eight languages, was a Richard and Judy pick and was shortlisted for several awards. Her most recent novel, The Songwriter is set in jazz-age New York.
Beatrice began her career as a journalist for publications such the Sunday Herald and The Guardian. She was New York correspondent for The Scotsman for a several years and wrote on subjects as diverse as Burlesque and contemporary art.
As well as writing plays and adaptations for BBC Radio 4, she has written film scripts, most recently one that was one minute long. She has just finished writing another novel, about two Scottish volunteers who fought in the Spanish Civil War, entitled The Bitterness of Oranges, and a novel for children, The Pyrate's Boy, set in Scotland and Jamaica in 1750s, will be published next year.
Beatrice is also a lecturer in Creative Writing at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. At the moment she is writing a novel set around the the construction of the Eiffel tower.
