Hamish Henderson
(born 11 November 1919 - died 9 March 2002) - Blairgowrie, Perthshire

A poet and folklorist, Hamish Henderson has travelled Scotland collecting traditional songs and tales. His mother, who spoke English, French and Gaelic, imparted on the young Hamish a love of the Gaelic language, and he wrote and translated poetry from Gaelic, French, German, Latin and Greek. He also wrote songs - some bawdy, others political - he was in Italy after the war, but 'asked to leave' while working on a translation of the letters of Antonio Gramsci, founder of the Italian Communist Party.
