Scottish Poets

This is by no means a comprehensive list of Scottish poets, but rather an overview of some of the leading names in Scottish poetry. The poets listed below are generally born in Scotland, and have been published in book form. But there are no hard-and-fast rules, and if you know of a poet who should be included below, let us know by emailing the editor. The Scottish Poetry Library has a much bigger list on their website.

Of course, many of the poets listed here are also novelists, historians, short story writers, and much more besides.

Rose and a book

O, my luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June.
O, my luve's like the melodie,
That's sweetly play'd in tune.
- Robert Burns, A Red, Red Rose
