Hero is a word used and abused in football, but one that can be applied to a particular group of men without fear. For those who served with distinction in Britain's armed forces during the brutal conflicts of the 20th century there can be no better description and Rangers Football Club is an institution that has been honoured to play host to a succession of true war heroes. The club's traditional motto, Aye Ready, has applied on the pitch for well over a century but for a generation of Ibrox stars those words were carried onto the battlefields on foreign shores as they fought for their country.
