Financial Care Models In Scotland And The UK

With the number of people over 85 likely to double between 2011 and 2041, how should the UK meet the care needs and associated costs of its ageing population? The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is considering how best to build consensus around solutions to meet this need through its Policy and Practice Development Programme on examining sustainable models of funding for long term care. This report represents the first comprehensive evaluation of the Scottish policy of free personal care for older people. It documents both the qualitative and quantitative impact of free personal care and outlines the costs, benefits and wider policy lessons for the rest of the UK and suggests that this flagship Scottish policy has the potential to improve care and support for older people, as well as their quality of life.
