This anthology grew out of a desire to leave behind a lasting Glasgow legacy of the ten years of freedom in South Africa and the many years of struggle against apartheid. What began as an idea for a commermorative programme became this inspirational, robust and original volume of writing by a broad range of Scottish and South African writers, with a preface by distinguished South African writer André Brink. Most of the writers were commissioned; some were prizewinners of the Freedom poetry competition, run by Glasgow City Council in 2004. From voices as varied as Desmond Tutu, Tom Leonard, Beverley Naidoo and Jackie Kay this book will entertain, inspire and challenge.
