This is Colin McPhail's first novel and is the story of a simple Highlander's fight and struggle to cope with family tragedy during the Highland Clearances forced upon him by man's inhumanity to man. He becomes a fugitive and, accompanied by his childhood friend, escapes from Scotland to Nova Scotia.
