Hippos

Hippos have existed in the wild for approximately 20 million years. Today, their range is concentrated in Africa where they live in a wide variety of ecosystems and habitats across some 29 countries. Curios and intelligent, they are the second-largest land mammal on the planet, after the elephant, and can weigh as much as 6000lbs. This is a colourful introduction to the natural history of the hippopotamus. It traces their evolution, takes a look at daily life in the herd of these sociable and intriguing creatures, and also investigates the many conservation threats facing the hippo today.
