The fifth in a series of murder mysteries set in medieval Glasgow. When a body is found it is believed to be that of a local missing man. However, Gil Cunningam's wife and the widow of the missing man are sure that the body belongs to someone else, but then they find themselves accused of having killed him by witchcraft.
