Leckie & Leckie - Active Learning and Practice Papers
Active Learning
The aim of the brand new Active Learning series is to help every secondary school in Scotland implement A Curriculum for Excellence as effectively as possible. Active Learning is the first series of books published specifically for Curriculum for Excellence, the Scottish Government's new curriculum which is being phased in over the next five years.
"The new curriculum represents massive change for Scottish teachers, when school budgets are already under pressure," says Martin Redfern, Publishing Director at Leckie & Leckie. "Our aim with Active Learning is to provide teachers and learners with support that's both wide ranging and cost effective.""
Active Learning is designed for use at S1 to S3 with two books per subject for each of levels 3 and 4. A Course Notes book and an Activity Workbook together provide an effective way to ensure teachers are easily able to tailor lessons to the new Curriculum. The books are packed full of practical ideas for project work, individual and group tasks, and classroom or homework activities.
These attractive and colourful books are already available for Business & Enterprise, English and Maths for S1/Level 3 and the range continues to expand in 2010 with books for History, Home Economics, Physical Education and Science – with even more books being added to the range in 2011 and 2012.
Practice Papers for SQA Exams
Also new in 2009, Practice Papers for SQA Exams provide the secondary education market with a fresh, new alternative for SQA exam practice, developed with feedback from Scottish teachers who said they wanted more than just a question & answer book. Each book contains new practice papers written and presented in the style of the SQA exams by experienced teachers and examiners and comes with a fully-worked answer section showing students how best to obtain all the available marks. A section on revision advice and preparation, a useful topic index and exam revision hints and tips are also included making these books fantastic value at only £5.99*
"We've been completely overwhelmed by the response from teachers, parents and students since we launched the series in July," comments Martin Redfern. "I had always expected the books to be popular but it's now very clear that our fundamental new approach combined with keen pricing is exactly what customers have been crying out for!"
Leckie & Leckie's new website was launched last year and 2009 has seen it grow from strength to strength with more special offers and a monthly enewsletter showcasing money-saving deals and new books. Registering with Leckie & Leckie also gives customers a customised SQA exam planner. Young Scot cardholders can claim 20% discount on all web purchases and this promotion has been a runaway success. A fantastic 3 for 2 offers runs on their website until Hogmanay on all their Standard Grade and Intermediate books. The company have recently started Tweeting and hope this will be another great way to engage with teachers, students and parents. Follow them at http://twitter.com/LeckieandLeckie/
