Publisher of the Month: Olida Publishing
Olida Publishing was founded in 2008 on the banks of Loch Lomond, with a view to exploring and developing the rich vein of Scottish writers. With only two authors, Sam Wilding and Alexander Tait, it was set up as small publishing house, with big ideas.
Olida has since added three more authors to the mix and continues to publish imaginative, exciting and invigorating books in all formats. Olida is a member of Publishing Scotland with whom Allan will travel to the Frankfurt Book Fair 2012 to focus on selling the rights of current titles.
Since its founding Olida Publishing has established a truly unique company of Scottish writers. It assists the emergence of new talent as well as promoting its writers' wealth of storytelling skills to the young and old in Scotland, the United Kingdom and overseas.
Olida Publishing will soon launch a new imprint. Gallus Press will introduce crime, thriller, and fiction with a West of Scotland swagger! This will see the debut of former Detective Superintendent of Police, Bill Gillis. In his novel Stable of Touts, the reader is given the opportunity to take a look inside the murky world of crime, where Bill gives the reader a fascinating insight into the relationships forged between the police and their informants.
One of Olida’s titles, Upon this Rock, by Alexander Tait, has quickly become a must read for those interested in Scottish history. This novel has been Book of the Month in The Scots Magazine, and recently featured in Historic Scotland Magazine, as well as other publications - including a personal view from the author and his spiritual influences in Church of Scotland periodical, Life and Work Magazine.
Elizabeth Sutherland, reviewer and acclaimed author says of the novel: "This book is not only a clever novel, but also reflects with clarity the tragedy brought about by religious controversy that is by no means an irrelevance today".
Two of Olida’s authors will be appearing at the Wigtown Book Festival in exciting events for children. Details can be found on the festival website.
Olida's mission statement is clear: "We aim to allow our writers to generate new ways in enjoying the written word, looking at our role in allowing the reader to explore new territories and continue the literary journey".
The emphasis that Allan Sneddon put on the portfolio of writers and their titles was that the books were to educate as well as entertain, whether the genre was pre-school picture book, young adult fiction, or indeed historical fiction.
