Reader's Choices - South Queensferry Primary
BooksfromScotland.com asked the P6 pupils of South Queensferry Primary School for their favourite Scottish books.
The Witch's Dog is one of my favourite books written by, Frank Rodgers. It's about a dog that wants to be be witch's dog so he dresses up as a ginger a white stripy cat. Wilf (the dogs name) does eventually become a Witch's dog but has many adventures on the way. I think that the witch's dog is more of a book for toddlers at the age of three maybe even two.
I like this book because it is funny and the author has described it very well. I think my favourite part of the book is when Wilf and the witch buy seatbelts for the broomstick because they kept falling off it.
Harry Potter books are very descriptive and easy to understand. The funniest book I would say the Chamber of Secrets! My favourite part in the Chamber of Secrets would have to be when Harry got locked in his new bedroom. Dudley his cousin was leaning against a zoo window looking at a snake and Harry made it disappear. His Uncle Vernon thought that Harry done that is how he got locked in the bedroom. When Rod, Fred and George came flying in their dad's car they thought it was going to be a piece of cake but it wasn't because of the zoo act his Uncle Vernon screwed metal bars on his window so that he couldn't got to Hogwarts. Hogwarts was like Harry's home so he was very sad. Ron, Fred and his owl and then gave them to Fred because George was driving Rod helped Harry but his Uncle came in and grabbed his leg but Harry kicked and kicked until his Uncle Vernon let go but as he let go and Uncle Vernon fell out of the window! And Harry made it!!
I would say it is a really good book infact all of J.K. Rowling's books about Harry Potter are excellent and I would recommend any of the Harry Potter books to anyone because they are really easy to understand.
Harry Potter is my most enjoyed book because of the great setting of the book J.K.Rowling also has a amazing sense of describing what Hogwarts looks like. J.K. Rowling has written about 7 Harry Potter books they are all extraordinary.
My favourite characters are Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore. He ca be very funny at times. My best book is the Prisoner of Azkaban. The part I like the most is when Harry blows up Mr Dursleys sister like a balloon and her buttons fly at Dudley the first hits hum the second misses but the third hits and knocks him out. It is a set of adventurous books that I highly recommend to everyone that likes reading about adventure.
I like Katie Morag because she is adventurous and exciting. I also like it because it is one of these books that is never too big and never too small. It feels like you want to be there in the story. I especially like Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers because such a posh grandma comes to stay by the sea where it isn't so posh.
I have read series of Mairi Hedderwick and I would take years to say them all, but I think The Two Grandmothers is the best. The fact of a posh grandma with a posh hat, and a pearl necklace, rings and hair rollers is out of place on that island. I thought that these books were excellent and I would recommend them for anyone.
The Witch's Dog written by Frank Rodgers is my favourite Scottish book because it's funny and not too long. I also like the illustrations because they're bright and neat. My favourite character is Wilf because he's so cute and cuddly.
My favourite bits of the story are when Wilf dresses up as ginger and white cat and he makes a mask out of a papier mached balloon. My other favourite bit is when the witch takes wilf to the witch's pet show and all the other pets there are cats, rats and frogs.
