There is a wealth of information online these days for the aspirant writer. The following is only a small selection of resources particularly relevant to the writing scene in Scotland.
How to get started
Publishing Scotland handles hundreds of queries from writers every year, although their remit is essentially to develop services to member publishers and the publishing sector in Scotland. Their advice to writers is found at Getting Published
Advice on legal matters
- The Society of Authors, with useful information on copyright, contracts and agents.
- The Scottish Association of Writers, who hold an annual conference as well as running competitions
- Literary Agents can evaluate your work and support and advise you during the publishing process
Writers’ bursaries, information on courses, residencies etc
- The Scottish Arts Council
- Scottish Book Trust - based in Edinburgh
- Live Literature Funding (run by Scottish Book Trust). A unique funding scheme that takes writers all over Scotland to schools, hospitals etc
