Jim Perrin wins Banff Mountain Prize
Banff
Alberta, Canada
Jim Perrin is one of Britain's best-loved mountain writers, and his latest collection, The Climbing Essays has just won the 2006 Banff Mountain Book Festival's "Best Mountain Literature" Award. The prize, worth CA$1,000, was awarded at a ceremony at the Banff Centre in the Canadian Rockies.
The Climbing Essays was published in 2006 by Glasgow-based publisher Neil Wilson Publishing's In Pinn imprint. One of the judges, UK based journalist Audrey Salkeld, said of Perrin: "Climbing has given Perrin his life. And practice has polished his natural gift in conveying these irreconcilables onto paper."
The Banff Mountain Book Festival is the largest mountain book festival in the world. Each year, the festival brings the spirit of outdoor adventure and the tradition of mountain literature to Banff, featuring guest speakers, readings, seminars, an international book competition, a book fair, and book signings and launches.
