Congratulations to leading Scottish poet Don Paterson for winning the 2009 Forward Prize for poetry for his recent collection Rain. This is the third time that Paterson has won a Forward Prize, which was described by one judge as:
"a serious work showing his authority and total mastery of his art and his particular genius for rhythm"
Also winning a prize this year is Robin Robertson, who won the prize for best single poem for At Roane Head - Robertson has also won three Forward prizes now.

In an assembly of masterful lyrics and monologues, Paterson conjures a series of fables and charms that serve both to expose us to the unsettling forces within the world and simultaneously offer some protection against them.
