The 2nd Wigtown Poetry Competition
Scotland's largest poetry competition, the 2006 Wigtown Poetry Competition, is run by the Wigtown Book Town Company and the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Association. Launched on 23rd September 2006, at the Wigtown Book Festival (see our events page for more details) closes on Friday 26th January. The winners will be notified by 9th April 2007.

- 2nd Prize £1000
- 3rd Prize £500
- Ten supplementary prizes of £50 each
- Gaelic Prize £1000
The main category judge is Jackie Kay and the Gaelic judge is Rody Gorman.
The winners will be announced in the Sunday Herald on 29th April, and a prizegiving lunch will be held in Wigtown on Saturday 5th May. The winning poems will be published in the Sunday Herald, and the winning and commended poems will be published in an anthology by the Galloway Gazette.
Entry fees: The first poem submitted costs £5.00 and three poems costs £10.00.
Subsequent entries cost £5.00 or an additional £10 for every three.
