BRAW Children's Book of the Year Awards

The winners of the inaugural Royal Mail Awards for Scottish Children's Books have been announced at a ceremony in Edinburgh. Nearly 3,000 children from more than 160 Scottish schools voted for their favourite Scottish children's books, in three age categories, and the winners were announced by Culture minister Patricia Ferguson MSP.
The winners were:
- Early Years (0-7 years): Little Lost Cowboy by Simon Puttock and Caroline Jayne Church, who share the £1,500 prize money.
- Younger Readers (8-12 years): Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by JK Rowling, who wins £1,000.
- Older Readers (13-16 years): Roxy's Baby by Catherine MacPhail, who also wins £1,000

The shortlisted books were all published in 2005; and authors or illustrators resident in Scotland were eligible for the award.
