A L Kennedy wins the 2007 Costa Book Awards
Congratulations to author A L Kennedy, who has won the 2007 Costa Book of the Year Award for her novel Day. Set after the second world war, it tells the story of Alfred Day, a tail-gunner in a bomber during the war who goes back to Germany as an extra in a prisoner-of-war film.
This is the second year in a row that a Scottish author has won the Costa Book of the Year award, following Stef Penney's success with The Tenderness of Wolves.

Alfred Day wanted his war. In its turmoil he found his proper purpose as the tail-gunner in a Lancaster bomber; he found the wild, dark fellowship of his crew, and - most extraordinary of all - he found Joyce, a woman to love. But that's all gone now - the war took it away. Maybe it took him, too.
