John Chalmers, author of Audubon in Edinburgh and His Scottish Associates, recounts the Scottish experiences of the great American wildlife artist.
In his talk, Chalmers paints a vivid depiction of the social, scientific and creative world of early 19th century Edinburgh, and introduces us to some of the figures of the Scottish Enlightenment which helped shape John James Audubon's masterpiece, Birds of America.
There will also be a summer Exhibition tour on Tuesday 22nd August: Birds of a Feather: Audubon's Adventures in Edinburgh. Booking is essential as spaces are limited.

John James Audubon, the French American ornithologist, is renowned for his superlative bird paintings. This work concentrates on the time Audubon spent in Edinburgh where his paintings were first engraved and he realised the ambition of their publication.
