This year MYDC are taking their adaptation of Jackie Kay's award winning poetry anthology The Adoption Papers to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

In The Adoption Papers an adopted black girl searches for her past identity while the adoptive white mother struggles for the eternal love of her daughter. Her real mother tries to cope with the shame of the abandonment and lives in eternal fear of her daughter coming back to find her. Set in Scotland, we see each of them locked in a triangle of love and fear, each searching for acceptance, looking for a way out.

The Adoption Papers takes a group of talented young people and allows them to push themselves to the boundaries not just of movement but also to the issues that Kay's poetry has always delivered. By the time these performers take their bows you'll have forgotten their ages, swept aside by the maturity of this production from conception to the astounding delivery.
