Edinburgh Book Fringe 2008

Just as the Edinburgh International Festival has a (massive) Fringe Festival alongside it, this year the Edinburgh International Book Festival also has a Fringe. Hosted by the Word Power bookshop, the Book Fringe runs from 3rd to 25th August.

The launch event is hosted by the new Edinburgh Makar, Ron Butlin, at 1pm on Monday 4th August. Events will include authors Doug Johnstone, Murray Pittock, Greg Michaelson, Sharon Blackie and many more.

Monday 4th August

1pm - Edinburgh Makar Ron Butlin launches the Word Power Edinburgh Book Fringes, with readings from Butlin, Regi Claire and others.

Tuesday 5th August

1pm - Gregory Norminton, author of Serious Things, and Mike Stocks, author of White Man Falling, read from their work.

Wednesday 6th August

1pm Greg Michaelson, author of forthcoming book The Wave Singer, will be in conversation with Chris Ballance

Thursday 7th August

1pm - Murray Pittock speaks on the history of Scottish independence movement

Monday 11th August

1pm - Publisher and author Sharon Blackie will read from her novel The Long Delirious Burning Blue, and will be joined by some of the contributors to the collection Cleave: New Writing by Women in Scotland

Wednesday 13th August

1pm - Poetry in performance with Tessa Ransford and Pauline Prior-Pitt

Thursday 14th August

1pm - Discussing the short story form with Meaghan Delahunt and Linda Cracknell

Thursday 21st August

2.3pm - Readings from Mandy Haggith, author of poetry collection Castings, and Stona Fitch, the author of thriller Senseless

7pm - Music and readings from Doug Johnstone, the author of The Ossians
