Leith Festival Book Club 2007

The Leith Festival runs from June 1st-10th 2007. This year’s festival will play host to more than 150 events in over 60 venues across Leith - all within a mile of the ‘Foot o’ the Walk.’ In excess of 30,000 people are expected to attend this year’s celebrations, which will include exhibitions, live music, drama, comedy, walks, talks, debates, and much, much more.
The literary strand of the program will run for the full ten days of the festival in the historic Lamb’s House in Leith. The literary programme is called The Leith Festival Book Club, and events include:
- Friday 1st June, 7.30pm - Penguin Scotland Presents - New Scottish fiction from Alison Miller and Doug Johnstone in an event chaired by Alan Bissett
- Saturday 2nd June, 7.30pm - A Tale of Intrigue and Betrayal - Donald Smith, director of the Scottish Storytelling Centre, reads from his novel The English Spy
- Monday 4th June, 7.30pm - Other People's Money - the true story of Elliot Castro, who lived a jet-setting life of luxury funded by credit card fraud. The story is retold in Other People's Money by Neil Forsyth.
- Tuesday 5th June, 7.30pm - What is it about Edinburgh...? - début novelist Gillian Galbraith leads a discussion on why Edinburgh inspires so much crime writing.
- Wednesday 6th June, 7.30pm - Brainheart - Paraig MacNeil celebrates 50 of Scotland's best thinkers - a eulogy in iambic pentameter - Brainheart
- Thursday 7th June, 7.30pm - Desperately Trying to Make Your Mark? - Talks and a dramatisation from Stephen Thompson's new novel Meet Me Under the Westway
- Friday 8th June, 7.30pm - Killers, Crooks and Cons - Godfather of true crime Reg McKay shares his stories of Killers, Crooks and Cons
- Saturday 9th June, 7.30pm, 87 Giles Street - Little Black Dress - a classy evening of wine, readings, glitz and glam, all featuring the Little Black Dress
- Sunday 10th June, 7.30pm - Rab Wilson Presents - an evening of Scottish poetry lead by Rab Wilson. Why not bring your own work along?
