Ron Butlin to be New Edinburgh Makar
Edinburgh author and poet Ron Butlin has been selected to be the new Edinburgh Makar. He has been appointed by the City of Edinburgh council, and was selected by representatives of the Scottish Poetry Library, Scottish PEN, the Saltire Society and The City of Literature Trust.
As Makar, Butlin is expected to write one poem a year on Edinburgh or its inhabitants, as well as support the development of poetry in the city. Butlin takes over from Valerie Gillies, and his position runs from June 1st 2008 to May 2011.
