The Small Print: Lloyds Banking Group Colleagues Write from the Heart for Charity
Do you have a book in you? Steven Prevost, senior manager from Lloyds Banking Group thought he did when he decided, along with eight of his colleagues, to write a book for charity.
The book, entitled “the small print”, a collection of short stories and poems, is being sold for £5, with £3.75 from every book sale going to the British Heart Foundation (BHF), the Lloyds Banking Group’s Charity of the Year.
Steven said "I have always enjoyed writing and I've had a few pieces of work published in the past. When I had the initial idea, I learned that a few of my colleagues were also keen writers and I asked them to help me put the book together. They all agreed and it was a challenge to say the least but we’ve all found it an extremely exciting and rewarding experience."
Philip Grant, Chief Operating Officer, Wholesale Division in Lloyds, was the main sponsor of the initiative. Philip commented; "I was really impressed by the original concept and that colleagues were being given the opportunity to use their creative writing talents. The colleagues involved brought their work talents to the initiative: communications, finance, marketing, networking, project management not to forget leadership and team work. I have asked Steven when I can expect volume two!”
The book is part of a two-year fundraising campaign with the BHF and Lloyds Banking Group which aims to raise £2 million by June 2010. The relationship will see staff at offices and branches throughout the UK taking part in various fundraising events and activities to help raise money to fund 15 BHF Heart Nurses in communities across the UK, caring for patients living with heart disease. To date, the relationship has raised over £1.3 million.
Douglas Rouse, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the BHF commented; "Fundraising initiatives like this play an important role in helping to place more BHF Heart Nurses in the local community and so we’d like to thank Steven and his colleagues for their unwavering support. Our BHF Heart Nurses empower patients, their carers and families to manage the condition effectively, maximising their heart health and quality of life.”
