The West Port Book Festival describes itself as "Run on generosity and goodwill, rather than on any kind of feasible budget", the festival is the newest addition to Edinburgh's festival scene. Run from just ten venues in Edinburgh's West Port - long the centre of the antiquarian and second-hand book scene in the city - all the events in this programme are free. Local bookshops, a pub, a gallery, the Edinburgh College of Art, a men's boutique and the Meadows are also hosting events.

Authors and poets attending the festival include Douglas Dunn, Ali Smith, Robert Alan Jamieson, Ian Rankin, Dilys Rose and A L Kennedy.
