This course will introduce you to a slice of Orkney culture in an informal and enjoyable way, in the beautiful surroundings which have inspired many of our writers. It takes a look at the life and work of well known writers like Mackay Brown, and also at some you folk may be less well acquainted with, like Robert Rendall, Edwin Muir and Eric Linklater. There'll be time to enjoy poetry, short stories and extracted from novels and plays, and to discuss the Sagas and folk legends which are part of our heritage. You can also enjoy what Hoy has to offer - scenery, wildlife, historic sites, - and if you are inspired to write yourself there'll be an opportunity to get informed and supportive advice, with an experienced lecturer to guide you through.
