Tartan Week 2007

A list of Scottish literary events taking part during the 2007 New York Tartan Week celebrations.

Many of the events will be part of the Isle of Jura Festival of Scottish Writing, which is supported by the Scottish Book Trust.

All Week

A celebration of the life and work of Scottish author R.D. Laing, combining drama and a jazz score. R.D. Laing is best-known as the author of "The Divided Self and Knots" and Wisdom, Madness and Folly. The event runs every day from March 30th to April 7th.

Thursday April 5th

Three leading Scottish poets - Vickie Feaver, Kathleen Jamie and Don Paterson - will be reading from and discussing their work at an event at the National Arts Club.

Tuesday April 10th

New Work author Colum McCann will be talking with Scottish authors Andrew O'Hagan and James Robertson at an event at the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe.

Wednesday April 11th

Scottish Crime Writing has never been more successful. Ian Rankin is currently writing his final Inspector Rebus novel; Denise Mina was recently nominated for the Edgar Best Novel of the Year award, and Allan Guthrie's third novel, Hard Man, will be launched in April. The three authors will be reading from their latest works and discussing their individual interpretations of Scottish crime writing.

Thursday April 12th

Ian Rankin will be launching the first US edition of his most recent novel, The Naming of the Dead. He will be joined by the former front man of band Arab Strap, Aidan Mofat. Both will be in conversation with journalist Katherine Lanpher.

Sunday April 15th

Debut novelists Alison Miller (Demo) and Mark McNay (Fresh) will be discussing their work.
