Summer Read Selection 2011

People across Scotland are being urged to visit their local libraries this summer, to take advantage of the free services and experience some of the best Scottish writing that Scotland's libraries have to offer.

Ticket to Read will be launched on 4th July by the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC). The campaign aims to encourage more people to take advantage of their free local library services and get reading this summer.

As part of the campaign, SLIC has put together a list of recommended summer reads, which boasts a host of titles from some of Scotland's most talented authors, with a style and genre to suit everyone.

Amongst the recommended reads are Leila Aboulela's Lyrics Alley and Jackie Kay's Red Dust Road, which have both been shortlisted for Scotland's largest literary prize, the Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust Book of the Year Award, in partnership with Creative Scotland. Also included is Rodge Glass's Dougie's War which has been shortlisted for Scottish Graphic Novel of the Year. Scottish writers featured on the list include Alexander McCall Smith, Aline Templeton, Denise Mina, Louise Welsh, Christopher Brookmyre and Alan Bissett.

All 32 Scottish library authorities are taking part in the campaign, some of which are also offering the e-books and audio books.

Here is a list of most of the books in the SLIC Ticket to Read Summer campaign. There are a few books missing, usually where there's a difference in definition of a 'Scottish book'.
