Professor Douglas Gifford is Honorary Librarian of Walter Scott's Library at Abbotsford and Director of The Abbotsford Project. He represents literature on the Scottish Arts Council, co-convenes the Saltire Society Book of the Year Panel and, in 2007, took over the Chairmanship of The Arts Council Forum for Literature in Scotland.

In the Second Annual MacDiarmid Lecture, Professor Gifford will be looking at the larger subtexts and dramas compressed in the early lyrics of Hugh MacDiarmid’s Sangschaw and Pennywheep.

The Lecture will be preceded by a short AGM of the Brownsbank Committee.
