Ayrshire, Arran and Burns Country

The Ayrshire coast is home to world-class golf, a major racecourse, beautiful Culzean castle, designed by Robert Adam in 1777, and the historic town of Ayr. The village of Alloway is the birthplace of Robert Burns, although many of the local towns and villages have connections to Scotland's national bard. Rabbie Burns is one of Scotland's best-loved writers. His poetry, including such famous songs as To A Mouse, Auld Lang Syne and A Red, Red Rose are enjoyed the world over.

The Isle of Arran, situated west of the Ayrshire coast, is a rugged island of mountains, beaches and excellent fishing. Harry Potter author, JK Rowling, has traced her ancestry to the island.
